About us
Who is TTW-Offroad actually, what does the abbreviation TTW stand for, and what exactly do they do? So many questions! Now, it's time for you to get some insights behind the scenes and delve into the history of TTW-Offroad.
It was the year 2003 Hans-Peter Kaschny (one of the original founders of TTW-Offroad) was at the MSC Bokel motocross track with his sons, André & Michel Kaschny. The motocross track, situated by a forest, had always been a special track for the Kaschny family. Unfortunately, the training session on that day was cut short as Father Kaschny had an encounter with a tree while riding his motorcycle. According to him, the tree suddenly appeared in the middle of the track. That was the initial indication that the crash might have been a bit serious. Friends like Roman Diedrichs reacted immediately, calling for emergency services, who transported Hans-Peter directly to the nearest hospital. After a few hours, the results were in: a broken left wrist, a broken right collarbone, and a crushed right foot. That marked the end of motocross for Hans-Peter as he declared, "I'll never get back on one again."
Later that year, Michel Kaschny (now the managing director of TTW-Offroad) qualified for the finals of the German Motocross Championship and had to travel to Bavaria for the races. Sabine Kaschny (mother and seemingly the only sensible one in the family) was supposed to accompany Michel. After a brief consideration, they realized that this plan wouldn't work. They had to rely on their supposedly amazing sponsor, who always made plenty of promises. However, this sponsor backed out, leaving them in a predicament.
Quite upset about the overall situation and the expected inability to continue his previous profession as a tradesman, Hans-Peter Kaschny (from Terschlüsen Sicherheitssysteme) teamed up in 2004 with Thomas Harms (from Two Wheel) and several other motorsport enthusiasts to establish their own motocross team. They also opened a small motocross shop in Hamburg called TTW-Offroad (Terschlüsen Two Wheel).
With great enthusiasm for motocross and enduro as their hobby, the TTW-Offroad team participated in various motocross and enduro series such as Offroadscramble, Norddeutsche Motocross Meisterschaft, Motocross DM, ADAC MX Masters, Motocross Pokal, Red Bull Romaniacs, Deutscher Enduro Pokal & DM, and many more.
Eventually, even Hans-Peter became unbearable at home, and Sabine practically forced him back onto the motorcycle. Overall, the healing process went very well due to a lot of determination and no option of giving up, and Hans-Peter was fully operational again in his original business.
The former student and store salesman at TTW-Offroad, Oliver H., began his current career as a TÜV inspector in 2008 and couldn't continue with the business. After a few other sales-related jobs, the TTW-Offroad store eventually became vacant and closed down.
In 2011, after successfully completing his training as a systems mechanic for plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, Michel Kaschny didn't want to continue in that profession. He practically begged to take over the TTW-Offroad motocross store. After much persuasion, Michel finally managed to convince his parents of the plan, and they gave him a chance.
Knowing very little about the business, Michel Kaschny took his place behind the counter and did his best to revitalize the store. After spending days and nights figuring out how to set up an online shop, manage inventory, place orders, issue invoices, pack packages properly, and many other things essential for a successful business, things slowly started falling into place.
While Michel kept the store closed to expand the online shop, he eventually reopened the physical store in 2015 with his first employees.
A small shop in Hamburg with a familial atmosphere on about 70 square meters and a tiny workshop. However, this was far from the end! The plan to expand the store quickly was already in place, but it required relocation and building anew.
The plan for the significant change was on track two years later, in 2017. Unfortunately, the project didn't go as smoothly because, on July 23rd during the German Motocross Championship at MC Wolgast, Michel got severely injured, spending several weeks in the hospital with a crushed and broken foot, a fracture in the upper jaw, and pelvis.
Both employees resigned during the relocation, and only through the dedication of his family, friends, and the employees of Terschlüsen Sicherheitssysteme GmbH, did Michel manage to open on time on June 30, 2018.
